Smith Statement on Retirement of Justice Sandra Day O'Connor

Today, Senator Gordon Smith (R-OR) issued the following statement on the retirement of Justice Sandra Day O'Connor:

"The most significant fact of Justice O'Connor's tenure was not that she was the first woman to sit on the Supreme Court. It is that time and again, in case after case, she has rendered the pivotal decision in the development of law and in dispensing justice. Her contribution to American jurisprudence has been truly profound and historic."
